Empty Nesters Argue E142
Three years into running a podcast together, Rick and Clancy are together constantly. That didn't stop them from arguing about cottage cheese, a dinner reservation in Spain, and a birthday gift for their son.None of those arguments were actually about the thing they were about. In this episode, Rick and Clancy walk through three real arguments unrehearsed, raw, on mic, in real time. What comes out underneath all three is the same: they hadn't been feeling heard by each other. And the deeper they go, the more they find the actual root cause. They've been going out, traveling, staying busy... but they can't remember the last time they went out alone, just the two of us. Proximity isn't connection. And the empty nest doesn't fix that automatically.π Our book is here. The Loud Quiet – Love, Laughter and Life in the Empty Nest. Clancy Denton (00:00)
This week on the Loud Quiet, empty nesters argue.
Rick Denton (00:04)
Hey everybody, welcome back to another episode of The Loud Quiet. We are going to be talking about fights in the empty nest. And I don't mean metaphorically. We're gonna dissect some of our actual fights. I even when I was saying to Clancy, I said, this episode might be a little risky. Are you are you ready for it?
Clancy Denton (00:23)
Yes, and we sometimes we have episodes that we know we want to do. We have them laid out weeks in advance. This week we weren't sure and we both got in the car to go somewhere and we said, Okay, what do you want to do? And you said, Okay, well I have an idea, but I'm not sure and you started talking and I said, β well I had a similar idea.
We've been at this now for three years. The podcast, the business. And β you know, I was feeling like lately th we've we've had a lot more disagreements even outside of the business. There's always been creative disagreements, but I don't know, lately I just feel like we've had more arguments outside of that. And I don't know if it's just because
We are together twenty four seven now. know, I mean I I there's probably
Only so much someone can be with someone all the time.
That goes both ways.
Rick Denton (01:48)
It
definitely goes both ways. And that is, I think there's something there. Are we having more fights than we have had? And I was coming at this with a slightly different take. And I want to weave maybe both of those into the conversation today. And that is of the three fights that I was thinking of, like the cheeky title that I was thinking of was it's not really about the cottage cheese. Because we had a pretty vibrant disagreement over.
cottage cheese. And I think in all three of them, whatever's on the surface isn't actually what the issue is, and I wanted to go through those three.
Clancy Denton (02:27)
All right. So we're going to take you along on the ride of our three arguments.
Rick Denton (02:33)
This isn't this isn't made up. Like we haven't processed this. This is gonna be real time. So I'll set the stage. And what's funny about even the retelling of this is we may disagree even in the retelling of this. But the fundamental issue of the cottage cheese was you were not happy that I had left the smallest amount of cottage cheese in the cottage cheese container. That is a fact. Now there's more that goes around this.
Clancy Denton (02:57)
gonna
say now you have to set this up correctly. Yeah, but that's not setting it up correctly. Mm. That is that is the basic
Rick Denton (03:00)
See we're already
I was just trying to do the basic fact. Go ahead. No, no.
What's the context around it now? Let's keep doing that part.
Clancy Denton (03:15)
Rick is very regimented when it comes to his Sunday breakfast. He eats the same Sunday breakfast every single Sunday. And it's oatmeal and then he gets a scoop of cottage cheese. I eat cottage cheese daily, like daily. So we have tubs of it in the fridge.
Rick Denton (03:36)
Big old vats of cottage cheese.
Clancy Denton (03:38)
We have tubs.
So he eats literally like not even a ramekin full. I don't even know what measurement you use. I think you just you're a ramekin. Okay. So it's not even probably a quarter cup. It may be, I don't know. But it is almost probably once a month. I will go in and grab my cottage cheese out and there is
Rick Denton (03:49)
it's the Y Bull, it's the Ramakin. I know.
Clancy Denton (04:11)
Really a spoonful and I am not I am not exaggerating, a spoonful left in the tub. What am I supposed to do with that? That is not a serving.
Rick Denton (04:28)
Here
is context that you're not adding to the story. I always will bring in another tub and have it in there.
Clancy Denton (04:38)
Cannot
use the word always there. I'm sorry. That is not a that is not a
Rick Denton (04:44)
I am at the end of a tub, I bring the other tub in
Clancy Denton (04:49)
I you do sometimes. That is not always. I don't care. That is still rude to the person who is coming in to get the cottage cheese the next time. All you have to do is open the next one and put that dollop in or just eat that last spoonful. Add that to your ram a cake. I don't want that last spoonful.
Rick Denton (04:53)
We disagree.
See, you're setting this up that I'm the villain here. Now, there's some things that are where the and this is I think where we get that it's not about the cottage cheese, is I did bring, especially in the context of this fight, this specific one, I did bring the other tub in there. The other tub was in there. I love having the first scoop out of a new container. And so there's nothing in me that would want someone to have taken an old scoop.
out of an old container, scoop it in there and plop it into the new one. Because I like that new container. So in my mind, I thought I'm setting you up in the way that I would want to be set up. It wasn't that I was being an ass and just leaving a little bit of cottage cheese. I was not using all the cottage cheese, not wasting, because I hate wasting food. And getting a new container ready and available for you there so that you could have that available.
Nothing that I did was out of malice.
Clancy Denton (06:13)
I don't care about that. My issue was I had already made this known before that that drives me crazy. I don't like that you do that and that y you just continued to do it. I had already asked you to stop doing it before. And so to me it was just being inconsiderate and not listening to what I had asked you before.
Rick Denton (06:38)
Okay. And and in that discussion, I acknowledge that. I'm like, all right, yeah, no, I hear ya. I understand that part. I never felt, and even now a little bit, I don't necessarily feel like you're hearing what I'm saying, and that is nothing was done out of malice, and in fact it was purposely set up to try to give you the best situation possible. No, I wasn't going to eat that last bite because I didn't want that last bite. I didn't need it, but I also don't like throwing it away.
Clancy Denton (07:05)
Okay, but again, why did you do it when I had already asked you to stop doing it? Like why that time did you like why did you continue
Rick Denton (07:14)
I'm never
going to answer like that's never a real productive way of us to to why puts me on the defensive. I have to defend myself. I don't know the answer. It was months ago. Couldn't even tell you why. I do know what I intended and that was to leave you in the best situation possible.
And that's why I don't think this is about cottage cheese. I think this is about you and I not hearing each other.
Clancy Denton (07:48)
See, this this is the problem with this is that all almost all of these are gonna look make me look like I'm the one with the problem because I'm the one bringing up these issues. Okay, well we'll see how this episode continues to go.
Rick Denton (08:04)
Well I don't see it that way.
Like the one that you just said there. Sure you brought it up because you felt that I did something wrong. Yeah.
Clancy Denton (08:14)
Because
I feel like you're not listening to me. β
Rick Denton (08:16)
β
and I feel like you're not listening to me.
Clancy Denton (08:19)
But you did the act. I understand. I Right But I had already asked you You had not said to me before, β but I do that because I don't want to mess up the new thing of cottage cheese. β and I would have told you, I don't give a flip about that. Put the dollop in there. I had already asked you, I think more than once, please stop doing that. So
That's where I was coming from. By the i th you know, how many ever a time, what it's like
Rick Denton (08:58)
Yeah. So and that's like we're not having this fight. At least I hope we're not having this fight again. I I acknowledge and hear that. Like for real. I get it. You felt not hurt and I understand that and even apologize for that. I don't feel like you're hearing where what I'm saying. I didn't go into it with malice. I didn't
Clancy Denton (09:18)
That's fine. I c I can hear you say that. β okay. I mean
Rick Denton (09:22)
That's the acknowledgement though that I felt has been lacking.
Clancy Denton (09:26)
Okay. I mean, do you wanna Do you wanna go back to that argument? I mean, we've already moved past
Rick Denton (09:33)
Gosh
no, no, but that's the whole point. That this isn't this isn't about the cottage cheese. No, I don't want to go back to it. But I think that's something that it reveals that that's how I've been feeling about that and other things that we may discuss is and I think overall I think we're gonna find the theme is we don't feel like we're hearing each other.
Clancy Denton (09:51)
Yeah, I mean I've said that.
Multiple times this week. So
Rick Denton (09:59)
Which is why we probably thought this was the right episode to record. Mm-hmm. Wait, where come on. What? What what are you thinking? What are you No
Clancy Denton (10:09)
Agreeing, yes. I'm yeah. I
I have thoughts about why β some of that may be happening. I don't know if we want to talk about that now or if we want to move on to the other
Rick Denton (10:28)
So it's not about the cottage cheese. Why don't we detail the other two ones? But hold that thought because I want to hear that because hey, if we're gonna try to be real here, β argument two took place in Spain. This is the one we alluded to last week that you were
Clancy Denton (10:44)
Well, yeah, and when we alluded to it last week I was like I do not remember and then later in the day I was like, β okay, yes I do remember and this one
Rick Denton (10:52)
And the the fact with this one or the the surface level what the argument was about is I had made a reservation for our dinner at eight o'clock and you thought that was too late and had wished it was at
Clancy Denton (11:04)
no, I'm sorry. No, you started at nine.
Rick Denton (11:06)
But that no, at the end it was eight o'clock and you had wanted it to be at seven thirty or earlier.
Clancy Denton (11:14)
I didn't want it to be earlier than seven thirty, but Okay, but again, we have to set the premise. This was the going to be the last night of our trip. We had to be up to get to the airport the next morning. Correct. Early. We had all said we want to make this an earlier evening so that we can all get good rest, make sure we're all packed, blah, blah, blah.
Rick Denton (11:17)
Okay.
Clancy Denton (11:44)
We're standing at the concierge. It you know, we're standing there and he's telling us, Okay, yes, great restaurant. What time would you like me to make the reservation? And you go, nine o'clock. And I looked at you like, Are you high? Did we not j just have this conversation? Nine o'clock, we're not back to the hotel till eleven thirty. I was like
I was like, no
Rick Denton (12:17)
We're laughing now. That was not how the no was expressed.
Clancy Denton (12:20)
So yeah.
I don't I don't know where we I mean.
Rick Denton (12:30)
Here's
what I was feeling at that moment. And and going up into because one of the things that she said is why did you ask me to stay with you at the concierge if you weren't going to take my input? And I I think those are some actually v accurate things that you have brought into that when we were having the fight. And I'd asked you to stay and here's why I was feeling frustrated at that moment that everybody wanted to have a good dinner experience, but it was the I felt the pressure being put on me. I was just as tired as everyone else.
I felt like it was, Rick, you go figure it out with the concierge, you go solve for it, taking into account all of our desires and our our swirling and all of that, and I just felt that pressure at that moment. I for the life of me and I don't want you to ask me, why did you say nine? I have no idea why I said nine. It probably was reflex having been there in Spain. But what upset me about the way this went down was the way that you came at me.
when I did that I suppose it whoa, hang on, I thought we had talked about something earlier. It was instead I was being accused of you didn't listen to us, you didn't all
Clancy Denton (13:37)
No.
I know, but I don't want people to think that I was talking to you. I saved it until we got back up to our and I also didn't do this in front of the kids. Everybody had their own hotel rooms, but
Rick Denton (13:52)
I I absolutely. But the theme of that and it was the way it was approached that really bothered me and a lot of it was because I had felt all that pressure coming in and landed on something and then after the fact I felt like I was getting hammered when there was an opportunity to correct it in the moment there.
Clancy Denton (14:16)
And the way that I looked at it was he was already on the phone making the reservation. Now, luckily you had changed it to at least eight. Eight, I think. Yeah. And he was already on the phone making the reservation. So I was just like, At this point, I was done. I was tired. It was the last day of our trip. Now I had done ample reservations as well too. It wasn't like you had done all of the scheduling and everything for this trip.
Rick Denton (14:45)
Did I say that's not
Clancy Denton (14:47)
But when you talk about the pressure was on me, you know and I get that, but I had done my
ample share of the work as well. At that point I was just done. And so yes, tiredness was probably paying a part of it. I knew that, you know, we still had
Fly back the next day and I was not excited about we're in the plane, we were flying back and yes, people can judge me for that, but I'm sorry.
Rick Denton (15:26)
You were feeling what you were feeling.
Clancy Denton (15:28)
So I was not looking forward to that. So yes, there were all kinds of emotions and I was not happy. And again, it came back to I felt like you didn't listen to what the three of us were saying we wanted to go to dinner earlier than we we wanted to go to dinner on American time, not Spanish time. So I I just didn't feel like that was being heard.
Rick Denton (15:58)
This is one that I actually can well, actually in all of I can understand your perspective on of you think that I wasn't hearing you. Because if we're saying early and I say nine o'clock, well that's just a absolute brain fart that to someone who does is not inside my own head thinks that I was just blowing ill off. No. I had a simple brain fart. Now, when I chose eight instead of seven thirty or earlier, because you even point out he said the restaurant opened at six, why aren't we
Doing that. Well, because to me, earlier was eight o'clock. I had already moved in that mode. And so that's that's a little different than not listening to people. That's just I had a different definition than y'all did. And that's where I felt like that's where I was most frustrated. Everything I just said is, yeah, I kinda gaffed up to that point. Or I gaffed in the message. I feel like it fell apart and frustrated me after that point of hang on, we can talk this through, but don't
Shut me down. I really don't do well when it I get shut down in a discussion.
Clancy Denton (17:01)
And I get that. And I think if it would have just been me and you talking about it, but with the concierge standing there already on the phone, I was like, Okay, no. And and yes, I did not react in the best way. I'll take that. But again, like I said, it was you know, the last day of the trip. People were tired, people were done and
We worked through it and we ended up having a fabulous β dinner. It was great. Yeah. Well obviously. We're still talking.
Rick Denton (17:35)
I think all of these we've worked through, right? I mean we're
willing to even though I feel like my adrenaline kicking in a couple of places, but so do you.
Clancy Denton (17:45)
Yeah. But everything in the end ended up fine. Yeah. So
Rick Denton (17:50)
The third is around a gift for Tanner, but it was all woven into we've got the World Cup coming up. And Tanner and I have been trying to figure out what kit or what gear we want to wear to su we're gonna choose to support Japan. He studied abroad there, we loved our trip we're going to the Japan game, so we're gonna get Japan stuff. And we've actually had a hard time finding things that were good.
Clancy Denton (18:09)
Y'all are going to the
Rick Denton (18:18)
And I was out to dinner with a group of guys f from the Dominican trip and when I came home you had said, Hey, I found this jersey that I think will work and f you found one that did work. And then the next day and there's more to this context, you know
Clancy Denton (18:41)
I
will
Rick Denton (18:43)
Story. But I want you to I fill
them in. I'm letting you fill them because I'm from my mindset. Yes. I then the next day said, Hey Tanner, mom found this great kit. What do you think about it? She loves it. Or he he loves it. I didn't realize that even though you said it was for his birthday, that you intended it to be a surprise for his birthday. Now that's the surface level. I will acknowledge there's more here.
Clancy Denton (19:07)
So I love the kids' birthdays and you're you know, well, we don't do a lot of big stuff for our birthdays. We usually just do whatever we want, but I love doing the kids' birthdays. I love trying to find something to surprise them with because we usually get β something that they know about. There's one gift he knows about already, but then I'm trying to get a few things that he doesn't know about. And I knew y'all were looking for jerseys. Well
He was kind of sending some off market websites and I was like, β I don't know. And so I had found like the official FIFA of soccer dot com that, you know, I've ordered from soccer dot com for years because that was Tanner's world. And so while you were out, I was like, β these are great. I will order him, you know, one of these. And I almost did it without even talking to you.
But then I was like, Well, I'm I'm not sure what size I should get him and blah blah blah. So, yes, when you got home
I said, Hey well, first I said, How was your dinner? And you were like, It's fine. We didn't really talk about anything. I was like, Okay.
Rick Denton (20:28)
I've got different color on that, but I'll let you keep talking. Well
Clancy Denton (20:33)
I guess guys don't
Rick Denton (20:34)
I just said there was nothing inter like no stories to tell but we have
Clancy Denton (20:37)
That's
nice. If any of you guys are
Rick Denton (20:40)
But
I said no, I clarified it for you. I said, look, we hung out, we had a great time, we laughed, but there's no stories to come home and share.
Clancy Denton (20:49)
And then I said, okay, I said, hey, I found these jerseys. I want to get one for Tanner for his birthday. I don't want to talk about that right now. Mm-hmm. Okay, great. I was like, well, we can talk about it tomorrow. So then during my workout the next day, which that is my time, I start getting
Inundated with these ding ding ding texts. And then I get one that says to on our group, Hey, do either one of y'all have a soccer.com password? And I was like, Well, why is he putting that on the group with Tanner? And so I texted you, I said, Did you tell Tanner about that jersey? And you're like, Yeah, he likes it. We're gonna order him. And I was like, I was gonna get that for him for his birthday. And so, yes, I was not happy because
I don't ha I have one other thing for him for his birthday. And like I said, I love birthdays. So yes, I was not happy. And again, if we could have just had a five minute five minutes, five minute discussion after you got home, none of that would have even happened.
Rick Denton (22:08)
This is one that I I think I you know how you said earlier that you are gonna be the one that's pr no, this is one that I I think I need to take the biggest hit on. There's some things that are elements to this that I feel like, well, hang on. But overall, I I absolutely gaffed. I misunderstood when you said birthday that it meant surprise, which a lot of folks are going, Hey dummy. And yeah, I probably need the hey dummy there. There are plenty of things though that we get the kids that they know about. It's just because of the birthday we give it.
To them. And because he and I had already been working through jerseys, I didn't want him to get something or β to wonder, wait, why aren't we doing anything? The games next week, kind of thing. And so that's why I put it all together in my head, not talking about it, put it all together in my head that yes, this is the birthday idea. We're gonna go forth and do that. I even said mom found this great thing. Like I thought I was doing all the right things.
I did not explain to you why, hey, I don't want to talk about it right now. When I came in the house, you'd been home alone and you'd been doing that research. You'd found a lot of good information. You'd done kind of all the work to get you to that point. Well, I hadn't. It w it I felt like it was just something, boom, we're talking about this thing that I really honestly I've been looking at jerseys for so many days now. I just don't want to deal with this right now. I didn't explain that and express that. It came out as I just don't want to talk about it right now.
Well, that's that's a a miss right there. Now, maybe the opportunity was there for you to say, Well, hang on, gimme five minutes, but it just didn't happen. We just we locked down the conversation.
Clancy Denton (23:47)
I tried and you were like, I don't want to talk about I was like, Okay, he really doesn't want to talk about it. β And
Rick Denton (23:52)
And β that's
When we look at it now, I'm talking about the feelings and the moment, not looking backwards.
Clancy Denton (24:03)
But again,
I am the one who always finds that kind of stuff. And so I know the places to get those kind of things. Y'all should have come to me in the beginning anyways and I could have found it for you in five seconds and so but β so yes, so that I mean and yeah, it it did I mean it that caused
Rick Denton (24:20)
We did talk about you being our stylist last week, so
Clancy Denton (24:36)
The day was not a great day the next day and I know and even to the point that the first World Cup game was on and you turned your computer off and walked out of the or was were about to unplug your computer and walk out of the room. β the game's on. I was like, we still have work things to do
Rick Denton (24:39)
And we had a lot of work to do too.
Clancy Denton (25:06)
And that created a whole new
Rick Denton (25:10)
And it w you know, it wasn't new. It was just karaoke.
Clancy Denton (25:13)
I know. And so yeah, I mean and again, we worked through it and moved past
Rick Denton (25:18)
It
took us a while to work through it though. That's one of the things that, you know, I I get very frustrated with you when it's when you just shut down. And not as a pause. Everybody needs a pause. Like, hey, time out. I'm too frustrated to talk about this right now. Time out kind of thing, right? But when it's no, forget it, we're not going to do it, yeah, that kind of thing.
That's when I have a really hard time because I want to get to the end of the discussion. I want to get to the resolution. I want to get to there. And I don't mind taking the time to get us there, but I want to get us there. And you can't get there when you're shut down.
Clancy Denton (25:55)
But in this case, you were the one leaving. You were leaving the because we were already kind of in it. You were the one leaving the room to go watch the game.
Rick Denton (26:07)
And I had said
we could work out there, which in retrosc come on. I know, but that was what was in my head. So I wa in my head I wasn't leaving, I wasn't cutting us off, I was allowing us a path to go forward. But the reality is, β that ain't gonna work.
Clancy Denton (26:10)
That doesn't work.
So saying that I was the one shutting a d no
Rick Denton (26:27)
Well no, you did. When I came back in, you're like
Clancy Denton (26:29)
Because then I was really frustrated.
Rick Denton (26:31)
I
know. I I that I know. That's what I'm saying. But you it is a fact that you shut it down there and that's what frustrates me when that happens.
Clancy Denton (26:42)
It it threw me back into some old patterns that haven't been there in a long time. And so
Rick Denton (26:53)
So what were you alluding to earlier?
Clancy Denton (26:55)
Well, I think that I think one of the things and actually it came up last night, you know, we had gone to a celebration of life for one of my friends or our friends' parents, which seems like now that's what we're doing. β and then we had the chance to go out after and sitting there we l said, This is the first time we have been out by ourselves in
I don't know how long. And I think that's a problem that and I think that may be some of the you know, yes, we have time alone here. We dinner together every night by ourselves, but it's different. And so I think that needs to get back into our regular routine.
Rick Denton (27:49)
A date night for lack of a better term.
Clancy Denton (27:51)
Yeah, because we have been going out, but we've just been including other people, which is great. I love that. But we have we have not been and because since we have been back, you know, we did Arizona, we did Spain, but since we have been back, it has been full medical appointments and you know, and then last week was just trying to catch up on work the entire week and
Rick Denton (27:59)
And not an oar. Yeah.
Clancy Denton (28:20)
You know, we're planning our book launch party, which we're so excited about. The book is out there. You guys go get it. go to our website, you can get your freebies, your book freebies if you purchase the book at the loudquiet dot com. You know, it's just it has been nonstop. And last night was really the first time and we had a great time.
Rick Denton (28:43)
one a hundred percent agree with you. All right, so what are we gonna do about that? If we haven't been I mean it's crazy to think about that we both agree that we haven't been spending time with each other when we're talking about it's the empty flippin' nest. It's our schedule.
Clancy Denton (29:00)
Well
I feel a little and w and we've we've done an episode about this before where we just feel like we're like trying to get our head back above water. And I I kind of feel like we are we're getting there, but I just kinda feel like we're at that space again where there's just
so many things, even, you know, business wise and just life wise too, that you know, and
Rick Denton (29:36)
Do we need to say no to things?
Clancy Denton (29:39)
No, I don't think it no, it's not that. 'Cause wha I don't I don't feel like there's a lot of things right now that are out there that we need to say no to. Now I I feel like when I look at the calendar and you know, when we are getting and and I feel like we have been doing that some because we have been getting some pitches that were like, No. Yeah. We just can't do that. That one, you know, just we can't do that.
Yeah, so we have been doing that. But I also feel like outside of the business there's some things just
Maybe organizationally, like just around the house, that kind of thing that are just starting to like get into
Rick Denton (30:24)
Yeah. β
It is amazing how physical clutter in things can create a mental
Clancy Denton (30:33)
And there's things that there's some purchases that need to happen that are just sitting in the back of my head, I'm sure your head, that are just they're there. And so I know it's things that, you know, we're now in June. We're almost half what we are halfway through June. So things that we had set as goals this year that are not even goals, but just things that we've
Rick Denton (31:01)
Yeah
things.
Clancy Denton (31:02)
You
know, to do that we haven't done that are are there. So
Rick Denton (31:05)
Still have half a year.
Yeah, and we were talking about that today. I think there's some things that it's a little bit of we're back to the just do. Like and that's when you're talking about physical clutter, like we've got a room that needs to be β is this donated, is it staved, is it β sentimental, all those kind of things. That's so easy to just tuck in the room and skip, but it's there. It's like this little monster that's just like And I don't you know, I don't think that that's necessarily at the deepest root of
Clancy Denton (31:29)
Just one room, but yes.
Rick Denton (31:36)
Yeah, why conflicts have been showing up, but it helps trigger some of the things that you're describing of why we aren't doing some of those
Clancy Denton (31:42)
It makes me feel unsettled. And that just unsettledness creeps into other areas and probably comes out in different ways.
Rick Denton (31:56)
Well
I feel better.
Clancy Denton (32:05)
I don't th I wasn't feeling bad.
Rick Denton (32:07)
No, but you know, when you talk about fights and that kind of stuff, and I think too, sometimes fights don't actually get at the root cause. And I I think we did find a root cause here of the the dating aspect β of it. I also think there's that thing of we've got to do better of truly listening to each other both before the conflict happens, but during and then after as well. I I I th that's a theme that I heard coming out of i in this that I didn't necessarily anticipate, but I certainly heard it and felt it.
Clancy Denton (32:34)
Did you hear it?
Rick Denton (32:37)
Huh?
Clancy Denton (32:39)
Did you hear it? I'm asking. It's about listening. Did you hear it?
Rick Denton (32:43)
You
totally threw me off there. Yes, I heard it. I heard it. See, some of this is not Wait, it's not just about hearing, it's about understanding. And I didn't understand that, but now I do. β so what about y'all? β this is revealing some of what's been going on with us and the conflicts that we have had as empty nesters. How do y'all handle your conflicts?
Clancy Denton (32:52)
I don't know.
Rick Denton (33:08)
What are some of the root causes that you're finding and and if you're willing to share, what are some of the discoveries that you're having as you've entered this emptiness phase that you know maybe didn't show up right at the beginning but are starting to repercolate back in? Would you head over to the Loud Quiet, get over into the Facebook group and and let us know what those are? We might be able to share some of those in a future episode, if with with your permission, of course. But it'd be great to to share those ideas in the community and help each other out. Y'all well
I think I'm gonna say it this way. Thank you all for listening. β
Clancy Denton (33:41)
And and listen to each other. Yeah.
Rick Denton (33:46)
And thank y'all sincerely for being a part of another episode of The Loud Quiet.
